Two teams from the Capital Region claimed first ever baseball State Championships

A pair of teams from Section 2 won the NYSPHSAA State Championship in baseball over the weekend in Binghamton.

In fact, they are both from Saratoga County... Saratoga Springs, specifically.

The Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks knocked off Roy C. Ketcham thanks to a series of passed balls in the 5th inning that allowed the Blue Streaks to come from behind, then hold off the Section 1 powerhouse to win the Class AAA Championship, 8-5.

This came a day after the Blue Streaks fended off Niagara Falls in a 10 inning classic in the semifinals.

For the Blue Streaks, it is their first State Championship in school history for baseball.  Saratoga Springs came into the Section 2 Class AAA tournament as a #4 seed after a rough beginning to the season, but thanks to a 15 game win streak, including 2-0 series wins in the Sectional Semifinals against Shaker and Colonie in the Sectional Championship, the Blue Streaks emerged as State Champions.

For Spa Catholic, the Saints claimed the Class C Championship after shutting out Section 4's Deposit-Hancock 4-0.

Like with Saratoga Springs, the championship is the first in school history for baseball.

The Saints punched their ticket for the State Championship after winning 5 -2 over Section 9's Burke Catholic at Union Endicott High School.   The Saints punched their ticket after winning over Granville in the Section 2 Class C Championship, and made easy work in the Regional Semifinals against Canton by winning 9-0.
