Best Time to Catch the Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse in the Capital Region

Skies are expected to be clear, here is the best time to see it

A total lunar eclipse will hover over the Capital Region early Tuesday morning. Known as the 'Blood Moon', as the Earth passes in front of the sun, Earth's shadow will cast across the surface of the moon - causing it to look more red/orange than its usual yellow color.

To see it, you'll want to be up early Tuesday. The partial eclipse will begin around 4:50am, achieving totality 6:03am to 7:04am.

According to the National Weather Service, skies will be clear most of the night, with a few clouds moving in around 6 or 7am.

The next Blood Moon won't happen until 2028 so catch it while you can!
