May 28th is National Hamburger Day! Hamburgers are a classic meal for people of all ages. Nothing screams America like a big burger stacked a mile high with toppings galore. In fact,
, which balances out to three burgers a week for every person.
Despite its importance to American culture, this staple food originated in Germany, in a town called Hamburg, where it got its name. But, putting the meat on a bun is an American tradition, and what we call a burger today started in Seymour, Wisconsin. Seymour is home to the annual Burger Fest, which featured the world’s largest burger back in 2001. The sandwich weighed 8,266 pounds!
To celebrate National Hamburger Day, you could head over to your favorite burger joint and treat yourself to the best item on the menu. Or, invite some friends over to grill burgers at home. It’s a perfect way to celebrate one of the country’s favorite foods, and the start to summer.
