Although we may not like to admit it, we all have rocked the Chicken Dance at least once or twice in our lives. This silly dance is a perennial favorite at birthday parties, bat mitzvahs, weddings, and other family gatherings.
A Swiss accordion player named Werner Thomas wrote the melody for the Chicken Dance song in the late 1950s. In 1963, he began performing it at his restaurant. The people who bravely stood up and danced along to the tune often used sporadic movements that reminded Thomas of ducks and chickens. By the time the Chicken Dance arrived in America in the 1970s, it had acquired set choreography with repetitive beak, wing, and tail motions.

May 13th is National Apple Pie Day! Apple Pie is one of the most loved American pies ever created, even though it was actually invented in Europe during the 14th century. The first printed apple pie recipe was by Geoffrey Chaucer in England in 1381. The original recipe included apples, spices, figs, raisins, pears and saffron on a coffyn (A pastry crust, often freestanding and rectangular).

Crunchy nuts and chocolate smooth fudge flavor is an irresistible treat! It’s believed that fudge was accidentally invented the 1880’s when in the United States when a baker was trying to make caramel.
Fudge recipes began to spread around the world with different variations. Fudge is a type of confectionery, which is usually very sweet, extremely rich and often flavored with cocoa. It is made by mixing sugar, butter, and milk and heating it to the soft-ball stage, and then beating the mixture while it cools so that it acquires a smooth, creamy consistency.
Chocolate can also be mixed in to make chocolate fudge. Fudge can also be used in brownies. Nutty fudge continues to be one of the most popular fudge recipes.

Today,
May 11th is Twilight Zone Day! Its uniqueness was beloved by children, teenagers and adults that affected generations of people. Rod Serling first read these words on television in 1959:
There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area, which we call the Twilight Zone.

Today, May 7th is National Roast Leg of Lamb Day! People have been eating lamb for more than 10,000 years. During the Middle Ages, farmers learned that sheep were the most productive livestock. These animals supplied wool for clothing, skins for parchment, milk for butter and cheese, and hearty flavorful meat.
