June 29th is Camera Day! You know,

? Cameras and photography have developed substantially over the years, from its early roots with the French inventor Joseph Niépce right into the modern day.

French inventor Joseph Niépce was a pioneer in the photography field and as one of the inventors of photography itself. He developed the heliograph; a technique used to produce the world’s first known photograph in 1825, the view from the window at Le Gras the family’s estate.

Fast forward to 1839, and it was Louis Jacques Daguerre took the first fixed image that didn’t fade. He is recognized for his invention of the daguerreotype process of photography. Tintypes were developed in 1856 by Hamilton Smith and decades later, George Eastman invented flexible and unbreakable film that could be rolled. This was the birth of the first Kodak that was offered for sale in 1888…the first digital camera was commercially sold in December of 1989 in Japan – and a year later, the first commercially available digital camera, in the United States, was the 1990 the Dycam Model 1. It was originally a commercial failure because it was black and white, low in resolution, and cost nearly $1,000 but this changed and soon became loved by photographers. And the rest is history!

June 26th is National Chocolate Pudding Day! It’s National Chocolate Pudding Day! Did you know that dessert puddings can be traced all the way back to the 17th century? During that time, a “pudding” was actually a very moist cake (similar to a modern-day bread pudding or plum pudding).

The sweet and creamy confection we know and love today emerged in the mid-19th century when an English chemist named Alfred Bird developed an egg-free custard powder. This remarkable invention made it very easy to produce a delicious pudding with the perfect consistency.

To celebrate National Chocolate Pudding Day, make your own homemade chocolate pudding to share with family and friends!

June 25th is National Strawberry Parfait Day! A parfait is usually a layered dessert served in a glass similarly named. The layers can be custard, ice cream, or yogurt, followed by layers of fruits or fruit purees. Fresh strawberries make this a perfect summer dessert.

and, coincidentally, the French word for "perfect" is parfait. Dig into a little bit of perfection today!

June 24th is International Fairy Day! This is one day every year that fairy believers young and old to celebrate the stories, magic, and history of the Fair Folk. For centuries, fairies have been an important part of Celtic culture. In all of the ancient legends, these mythological creatures are described as intelligent, mischievous, and magical.

, and they live in “Tír na nÓg,” the land of eternal youth. Mortals don’t often see fairies because of the division between the two worlds, but sightings can occur at twilight or during Beltane, Mid-Summer’s Eve, or All Hallow’s Eve.

In his 1904 play, “Peter Pan,” J.M. Barrie wrote that when the first baby laughed, the laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and that was the beginning of fairies. International Fairy Day is the perfect opportunity to relive your childhood fantasies and celebrate the joy and magic of the fairy world. Read a classic fairy tale, build a fairy house, or take a stroll through the woods – or heck, just hang out in wishy dreamland. You never know when you might stumble across something magical!

June 23rd is National Pink Day! Today is a perfect day to wear pink, eat something pink, drinking something pink, or really anything you can think of involving the color pink!

. Before that, pink was a verb, which meant, “to decorate with a punched or perforated pattern.” It was not a common color, except for in some Christian art in the middle ages.

To celebrate pink day, get out all your pink gear and wear it, use it, or whatever you can do with it!

June 22nd is National Chocolate Éclair Day!

. The dessert may have been named for the flash of frosting that bolts across the top, but the original connection between lightning and the pastry is unclear.

The éclair has been a fan favorite since the 1860s, and it will likely remain a stable item in bakeries for a long time. The French call the dough of the pastry “choux,” which is then baked carefully to create a hollow interior. The filling is then piped into the center, and topped off with icing.

The treat was created in France, but today people all over the world eat this delicious sweet. To celebrate National Chocolate Éclair Day, head to the local bakery and pick up one, or a dozen to snack on.

June 19th is National Martini Day! Although the exact origin of the martini is unknown, this iconic drink has earned a permanent place in the pantheon of classic cocktails. The first printed recipe for a “Martinez” cocktail appeared in a bartending manual published in San Francisco in 1887.

However, historians disagree over whether the beverage actually originated on the West Coast. In 1911, a New York City bartender named Martini di Arma di Taggia began serving a cocktail made with gin, vermouth, orange bitters, and an olive garnish.

, and has been associated with New York ever since.

Today, 50% of all cocktails are served in a martini glass. Some of the most famous (historical and fictional) martini lovers include: John D. Rockefeller, Humphrey Bogart, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Clark Gable, Ernest Hemingway, and James Bond.

June 18th is International Picnic Day! This is the day to

—an outdoor picnic with friends, family, games and activities, and delicious food.

During the Victorian era, picnics were very important social occasions. They offered the rare opportunity for young men and women to spend time together in the great outdoors.

They were also quite elaborate. A picnic for twenty people might feature cold salmon, lamb, veal, chicken, ham, pigeon pie, sandwiches, fruit, a selection of cheeses, and a variety of baked goods! The modern-day picnic is much less complicated. In fact, the phrase “it’s a picnic” means “it’s easy.”

June 17th is “EAT Your Veggies” Day! It’s no news that vegetables are good for you, but tomorrow is a day to remind yourself to get those veggies into your diet! Remember how your parents used to tell you to eat your vegetables? They were right: vegetables are essential for living a long, healthy life, and they are also delicious!

In recent years, there has been a steady rise in the number of American families that grow their own vegetables.

.

But kids aren’t the only ones who avoid eating vegetables – lots of adults have trouble incorporating veggies into their daily meals as well. There are plenty of easy ways to make sure you eat your veggies today, like throwing a handful of raw spinach into your morning smoothie or tossing tomatoes, carrots and cucumbers into a salad for dinner. You can simply swap a junk food snack for some fresh green, or step it up and become a vegetarian for the day! And if that’s not enough motivation, just remember what your Mama used to say: if you eat your vegetables, you get some dessert!

Today is the perfect day to give yourself a sweet treat! Fudge is made with sugar, milk, butter and your favorite flavoring. Popular choices range from chocolate to peanut butter to peppermint and marshmallow..

Chocolate is one of the most common flavors, but back in the day fudge used to be totally chocolate-less. What we call fudge evolved from a candy called the Scottish Tablet, which came to popularity in the 17th century.

To celebrate National Fudge day, make some yourself, or head over to your favorite chocolate shop ad get a box to share.
