What Should the Capital Region Be Famous For?

It started with a Chicago bar doing something that sounds completely reasonable after several bad decisions: 1,969 people gathered to take Malört shots together and set a Guinness World Record.

Yes. 1,969 people. One giant wave of Malört shots. That got me thinking: If the Capital Region wanted to get in the Guinness World Records book, what should WE attempt?

We could go big… or we could go completely ridiculous.

How about the largest gathering of people wearing Albany-themed T-shirts?

Or the most people eating mini doughnuts at the same time?

Maybe we attempt the largest group of people yelling “AYYY!” at a hockey game.

We could set the record for the most people wearing flannel in one location, because apparently Capital Region weather requires four seasons of clothing in a single afternoon.

Or maybe we gather thousands of people and attempt the largest synchronized “Let’s Go!” chant.

And if we really want to compete with Chicago, we need something legendary: the most people simultaneously taking a shot of… maple syrup? Hey, we're in New York. We have standards. Sort of.

So here's the question:

If the Capital Region were going to set a completely ridiculous Guinness World Record, what should we attempt?

Make it weird. Make it enormous. And preferably make sure nobody has to drink Malört.
