With the heat index it's going to feel like 102 degrees today.

Just in case you haven't heard yet, it's going to be extremely hot today. Temps are expected to be around 96 degrees but with the humidity levels on the rise, it's actually going to feel like 102 outside.

The National Weather Service of Albany has issued a Heat Advisory for the entire Capital Region starting at 11am and lasting until 8pm tonight.

Here are some things that you can do to avoid heat exhaustion or heat stroke

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Avoid beverages that dehydrate you
  • Replenish electrolytes
  • Pace yourself (if you need to be outside for an extended period of time)
  • Seek shade or A/C
  • Dress for the weather
  • Protect your skin
  • Use quick-cool methods (if you overheat drench your clothing in cool water or apply cold packs to your neck, armpits and groin)

Some other things to keep in mind when you're dealing with extreme heat -

  • Check on others (the elderly, young children and pets are vulnerable to extreme heat conditions)
  • Never leave anyone in a car unattended
  • Check your medications
