Almost 4 feet of snow and some of the coldest temps on record

We've seen some crazy winter storms in the Capital Region, but few compare to the blizzard of 1969. Over a foot of snow had already fallen a few days before Christmas. Then another storm moved in Christmas day dumping more than two feet on the area over the course of three days. In addition, temperatures fell to 20 degrees below zero with 40mph winds, ultimately paralyzing the area.

Cleanup was estimated at 2 million dollars (today's dollar amount would be about 17 million) and the National Weather Service in Albany rates the 1969 storm as the third greatest snow storm on record.

CBS 6 WRGB captured the scene that week.
