Albany's Most Iconic Restaurant Officially Closes

It's the end of an era

Just shy of what would have been its 111th birthday, the legendary Albany eatery, Jack's Oyster House is officially closed. Owner Brad Rosenstein tells the Times Union he had hoped to keep Albany's oldest restaurant going:

I tried to find a way to continue it under somebody else, but nothing ever came together.

Jack's opened in 1913. Over the course of its run, politicians, actors, musicians and socialites from all areas of the world have dined at the iconic restaurant.

In 2022, Jack's closed to undergo renovations, with the hope of opening in January 2023 to mark the restaurant's 110th anniversary, but the doors never reopened.

Along with the building, Rosenstein said he would potentially sell the naming rights to Jack's:

But it would have to be the right person, the right fit. I’d love to see Jack’s be brought back and continue.

The restaurant is being listed with Carrow Real Estate Services for $1.399 million

Jack's celebrated its 100 year milestone in 2013, which was a big event for the city of Albany.
