What To Know For Thursday's Capital Region Winter Storm

How much snow, when it will arrive, how long it will last

Winter continues its reign over the Capital Region as we begin 2025. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 4:00am to 6:00pm Thursday.

A little bit of everything is expected - snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Snow totals are expected to be between 1 and 3 inches.

A greater concern could be the accumulation of ice, ranging from a light glaze to half an inch.

The storm is expected to begin late Thursday morning with snow, transitioning to a mix of sleet and freezing rain or drizzle by early afternoon.

These conditions are likely to make roadways slippery, potentially affecting both morning and evening commutes. Drivers are advised to slow down and exercise caution. Additionally, untreated surfaces such as stairs, sidewalks, and driveways may become icy and hazardous.
