The North Albany Middle School PTA has established a GoFundMe campaign

An 11-year-old girl tragically lost her life after sustaining injuries while heroically attempting to save her 12-year-old classmate, who had fallen through the ice at Washington Park Lake in Albany on Saturday December 7. Despite her brave efforts, both children fell through the ice. Emergency responders later recovered the boy, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and the girl, who was critically injured but later succumbed to her injuries.

Authorities have withheld the identities of the children due to their young age. The North Albany Middle School community, where both were students, is now mourning this devastating loss and providing support to grieving students and staff.

In response, the school’s PTA has organized a GoFundMe campaign to assist the families during this difficult time. Those wishing to contribute can make donations here.
