The 17 year old just set a new bench press record

The next time you need help moving that washer and dryer, you might want to reach out to Liam Anderson. The 17 year old Shenendehowa senior just set the American bench press record for the 16-17 year old division at the 2026 USA Powerlifting Southwest Regional Championships.

According to News 10, Anderson set a record of 396 pounds on his second rep, then broke it again by lifting 402 on his third.

The first one when I broke the record, I was the most confident I’ve ever been. I knew I was gonna break it. I trained the whole entire month prior. The third lift, I had no clue. It was just pure adrenaline and in the moment. I was in a room full of people I’ve never met in my entire life…everyone was cheering me on. I was like, 'I’m doing this for my mom.' I’ve never felt so much pride in myself. It just makes me want to compete even more and inspire other people to do the things I can do.

Liam turns 18 later this month and plans to break the 18-19 year old world record. Ultimately, he wants to press 500 pounds by the time he's 20.
