Section 2 is sending 10 total teams to Troy and Binghamton this weekend!

The NCAA tournament gets under way on Thursday, with Siena playing Duke in the first round down in Greenville, South Carolina, but the madness isn't limited to the collegiate level.

Section 2 is sending 10 teams to the state semifinals this weekend, 5 boys and 5 girls squads.  Plus one team from Section 7 that is from Warren County is also participating in the madness in Binghamton and Troy.

For the girls, Shaker will be the first to represent Section 2 when they take on downstate's Albertus Magnus at the Hudson Valley Community College in Troy at 4:15pm in the Class AAA Semifinals.  If the Blue Bison win, they would play the winner of Rochester-based Aquinas and Long Island's William Floyd on Friday, 6pm also at Hudson Valley Community College.

At the same time, KIPP Capital Region will represent Section 2 down at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton as they take on Carle Place from Nassau County in the Boys Class B Semifinals.  If the Trailblazers advance, they face Western NY's Olmstead or Syracuse-based Marcellus on Friday, 6pm.

Later on Hudson takes on downstate Tappan Zee in the Class A Semifinal.  A win will propel the Blue Hawks to the finals on Friday at 7:45pm where they face the winner of Southern Tier's Maine-Endwell and Syracuse-based Westhill.

Then on Friday, Amsterdam's boys continue their magical run as they take on Westchester County's Rye at 11:45am in Binghamton in the Class AA Semifinals.  A win will put the Rams, who won their first sectional title since 1995 earlier this month, in the championship against either Rochester area's Penfield or Southern Tier's Seton Catholic.  The finals would be Saturday at 6pm.

At the same time, the Greenwich girls play in the Class C Semifinals against Tuckahoe.  If Greenwich wins, the finals would be Saturday 6pm against the winner of the Frewsburg/Delaware Academy semifinal.

Another pair of Section 2 representatives will play at 3:15pm on Friday.  For the boys, Christian Brothers Academy take on Section 1's Mamaroneck in the Class AAA Semifinals.  Winner takes on Rochester area's Fairport or Southern Tier's Corning-Painted Post on Saturday, 7:45pm in the finals.  For the girls, Mechanicville faces Yonkers Montessori in the Class B Semifinals.  The finals are also Saturday, 7:45pm, against Chenanago Forks or Marcellus.

Then on Saturday, Albany Academy for Girls squares off in the Class A Semifinals when they take on Tappan Zee at 11:45am.  If the girls advance, the finals will be Sunday at 10am when they face the winner of Our Lady of Mercy from the Rochester area, or Utica-Notre Dame from Section 3.

In the final girls semifinal in Troy, Bethlehem faces Rockland County's Nyack at 3:15pm in the Class AA Semifinals.  If the Eagles advance, they'll face either Western New York's North Tonawanda or Southern Tier's Horseheads, in the Class AA finals on Sunday, 11:45am.

Over in the boys side, Berne-Knox-Westerlo is the final team to represent Section 2 this weekend when they face North Salem from downstate at 3:15pm in the Class C Semifinals.  The finals would be Sunday at 11:45am with the winner taking on either Lyons or Cooperstown.

In addition, the Class D semifinal on Saturday for the boys will feature Warren County's Bolton Central, who play in Section 7 with the Champlain Valley schools.  They take on Long Island powerhouse Bridgehampton at 11:45am.  The winner takes on either Clymer or Sackets Harbor in the Class D finals on Sunday, 10am.
