The man apparently fell from a scaffold

Update 1:39pm: Cam Cardner, the Assistant Chief of the Northside Fire Department in Waterford told NewsChannel 13:

Luckily and thankfully, the Canal Corporation had a crane on sight. We packaged the patient into our stokes basket, and we were able to carefully lift him out of the lock.

A worker with the New York State Canal Corporation was hurt Wednesday morning after falling into the empty basin of Erie Canal Lock 5 in Waterford.

News 10 says the accident happened around 9 a.m. while the worker was on scaffolding for a maintenance project. Officials say the worker fell about 10 feet and was taken to the hospital. The extent of his injuries hasn’t been confirmed yet.

The Canal Corporation is looking into what caused the fall.
