Albany Announces New Location for Alive at 5 Concert Series

The city's signature free concert series starts June 5th

Alive at Five is coming back to downtown Albany in 2025, with this year’s free summer concert series moving from Jennings Landing to Tricentennial Park. The concerts will take place Thursdays from June 5 to July 17 (excluding July 3).

The move marks a return to the series’ original location on Broadway, where it launched in 1990. Mayor Kathy Sheehan says the change is part of a broader effort to bring more activity and foot traffic to downtown businesses after the shows. Sheehan said in a statement:

We heard loud and clear from the Downtown Business Community that after an Alive @ 5 show on the Riverfront, visitors would get into their cars and leave rather than stay to experience the nightlife Downtown has to offer. Bringing Alive @ 5 back to Downtown Albany is a commitment to our businesses and our entire city, showing that we hear them, we support them, and we want to work with them to make our Downtown more vibrant and welcoming. The pandemic and work from home policies fundamentally changed people’s habits, but by coming together and being flexible, we will make this the best Alive @ 5 yet.

This announcement comes as a $1.25 million renovation begins at Tricentennial Park. Upgrades will include improved accessibility, better drainage, and more trees, allowing for expanded year-round use of the space.

If it rains, concerts will move to the usual backup spot under the 787 overpass at the Corning Preserve Boat Launch. Stay tuned for the full lineup.
