Team USA women’s ice hockey dominated Canada in a 5-0 victory in their final preliminary game at the Milan Cortina Olympics. It was the first time the Canadian women’s team has been shut out in the Olympics. Both teams were undefeated in group play, setting the stage for a high-energy game. The historic rivalry between the two teams has often determined the gold medal winner in women’s ice hockey at the Olympics. The quarterfinals of the tournament are set to begin on Friday.

The Milan Cortina Winter Olympics officially hit full stride on Saturday, February 7, with the first medals of the Games on the line and a packed slate of marquee events from morning through primetime.

Saturday marks the first true “can’t-miss” day for winter sports fans, blending speed, power, and artistry across the snow and ice — and Team USA is all over it.

🏔️ Medal Events to Watch Saturday

Several sports crown their first Olympic champions on Day 2:

  • Men’s Downhill (Alpine Skiing)
One of the fastest — and most dangerous — events in the Winter Games. Expect blistering speeds, razor-thin margins, and dramatic finishes as the world’s top downhillers go for gold.

  • Women’s Cross-Country Skiathlon
This endurance test combines classic and freestyle techniques in one grueling race. All eyes will be on American standout Jessie Diggins, a proven medal contender and one of Team USA’s biggest stars of the Games.

  • Women’s Speed Skating – 3000m
A tactical, stamina-heavy race where pacing is everything. Early mistakes here can cost medals by tenths of a second.

  • Ski Jumping – Normal Hill
A fan-favorite event blending flight, form, and fearlessness as athletes soar off the hill in pursuit of Olympic history.

  • Men’s Snowboarding – Big Air
Expect massive tricks, huge amplitude, and progression pushing the limits of what’s possible on a snowboard.

🇺🇸 Team USA in Action (Non-Medal Rounds)

Even beyond the podium events, Saturday is stacked with major Team USA appearances:

  • Women’s Hockey – Early tournament action continues as the U.S. looks to set the tone in its quest for gold.

  • Figure Skating – Programs begin that will shape the medal conversation later in the week.

  • Mixed Doubles Curling – Strategy, precision, and drama as teams battle in round-robin play.

  • Freestyle Skiing & Luge – Qualifying and early heats keep the momentum rolling all day.

📺 How to Watch the Olympics on Saturday

Viewers in the U.S. have multiple ways to catch the action:

  • NBC – Primetime coverage featuring the biggest events and medal moments

  • USA Network – Live daytime coverage and overflow events

  • PeacockThe go-to option for wall-to-wall live streams, replays, and event-specific coverage throughout the day

If you want full control — including watching specific events like downhill skiing or Big Air live — Peacock is your best bet. NBC’s primetime broadcast is ideal for highlights, storytelling, and major medal ceremonies.

❄️ Why Saturday Matters

Saturday isn’t just about medals — it’s about momentum. Early podium finishes can shape narratives for the rest of the Games, and performances on February 7 will set expectations for Team USA across multiple sports.

Whether you’re tuning in for the speed, the style, or the stakes, Saturday is the day the Milan Cortina Olympics truly take off.

As rumored, Tom Cruise was a major part of the Paris Olympics Closing Ceremony. Cruise jumped from the top of the Stade de France with a harness in order to retrieve the Olympic flag. In a pre-taped segment, Cruise then rode his motorcycle out of the stadium, through Paris to a plane, which then flew to Los Angeles. Cruise then jumped from the plane and landed safely at the Hollywood sign, which transformed the two O’s in “Hollywood” into the Olympic rings. Are you looking forward to the 2028 LA Olympics?

A Tennessee woman has managed to win the United States’ first weightlifting gold medal in 24 years. Hixson resident Olivia Reeves scored the feat Saturday at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she lifted 258 pounds in the snatch and 320 pounds in the clean and jerk, beating Colombia’s Mari Leivis Sanchez by 11 pounds. Ecuador’s Angie Dajomes finished in third place to take the bronze. The last time a U.S. weightlifter brought home a gold medal was in 2000, when Tara Nott won one in Sydney.  Saturday’s 100-meter hurdles competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics was so close that three competitors had to wait for the judges’ ruling to see which of them had won. In the end, it turned out American Masai Russell had crossed the finish line just 1/100th of a second before France’s Cyrena Samba-Mayela for a total time of 12.33 seconds – less than a tenth of a second short of her personal best. Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn – who went into the competition as the reigning Olympic champion – captured bronze with a time of 12.36 seconds. The news of Russell’s victory prompted the U.S. runner to scream and pump her fists as she ran down the track in celebration. Meanwhile, Samba-Mayela broke down in tears while Camacho-Quinn tried to comfort her. So far, what’s been the most exciting event at the 2024 Paris Olympics?

Olympic Breakdancing has its first viral star - though probably not the one the sport would prefer. Australian Rachael Gunn - aka 'B-Girl Raygun' -  took the internet by storm with her cringeworthy moves in the women's breaking qualifiers on Friday. The 36-year-old Gunn was swept out of the group phase without earning a single vote - sometimes competing against women less than half her age. But there's more than meets the eye when it comes to Gunn - or should we say DOCTOR Rachael Gunn, a university professor who wrote her PhD thesis on breaking culture. What did you think of Olympic Breaking?  Should the sport return for the 2028 Olympics in L.A.?

The U.S. mixed 4x400-meter relay team has broken a world record at the Paris Olympics. Eyes were on U.S. gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik at the Paris Olympics on Monday. Nedoroscik — who had become a fan-favorite on social media — had one task at the men’s gymnastics team final: the pommel horse. He’s up there, helping me keep the nerves in check. He knows exactly what to say to me. So when we got that chalk bucket, he kind of just settled me down and said, ‘You’re ready for this.’ I went up there, did my routine and during that dismount, I was just like, already smiling.” What are you enjoying most about this year's Olympics? Simone Biles hopes to win gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics and move on from her 2021 Tokyo Olympics withdrawal. She heads a stacked U.S. team in Paris after returning to form in the Olympic trials. When her calf strained, Olympic qualification appeared difficult, but she finished first in the all-around, vault, and floor and second on the beam. Set up for a dramatic finals conclusion, she has the right soundtrack to make her statement. Forbes says Biles "opens her routine with Swift’s “...Ready For It?” which transitions into “Delresto (Echoes)” by Travis Scott and Beyoncé." While Biles prepared for her floor exercise during the June Olympic trials, Swift tweeted her support. “Watched this so many times and still unready.
