Siena College senior Prince Asante is about to graduate from Siena College in a few days, but he says that accomplishment is nothing like the one he achieved over the weekend.
On Saturday, Asante was riding a shuttle bus from Troy to Siena when the bus driver in training went into cardiac arrest while driving. Luckily, another driver named Mike Koch quickly jumped into action and got the bus under control.
When Asante got up to the drivers seat, he and Koch removed the woman from the bus – at that time she had no pulse. Asante immediately performed CPR – saving her life. The woman is said to be recovering. Both Koch and Asante are being called heroes.
I never believed that I would be able to save someone’s life, that I would be the reason why someone would smile, and I was able to achieve that. I think this will be the proudest moment of my life.
Asante is a biology major who came from Ghana. He hopes to go to medical school after graduation.
