Mask Mandate in NYS Health Care Facilities To End

Masks are still mandatory in most New York State doctors offices, hospitals and urgent care centers, but after this weekend, that will end.

The acting health commissioner, Dr. James McDonald, made the announcement at a briefing Friday morning, citing a drop in covid cases recently.

[this] allows us to shift from blanket mandates to an approach in which we provide people with the information and tools they need to protect themselves and their families and their organizations.

The requirement expires on Sunday and will not be renewed, McDonald said.

I want to underscore the pandemic is not over — we are in a period of transition, however.

Starting Monday, health care facilities can individually implement their own masking policies. This comes shortly before the federal public health emergency is set to end on May 11th.
