The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents and businesses to be on the alert for an apparent scam artist posing as a police officer over the phone.
In a release Thursday, police say they’ve received several complaints about a scammer calling local restaurants. The scammer, posing as a cop, apparently knew personal information about employees at the targeted business and instructed the employee to take money out of the cash register and bring it to a local drug store.
If you believe you’ve been targeted in this scam, reach out to the Saratoga County Sherrif’s Office at 518-885-6761. Police remind residents and businesses that they will never contact you by phone to deposit money.
