Packages Stolen in Saratoga County, Police Issue Warning

Tis the season for package thieves and they’ve been on the prowl, at least in one Saratoga County town.

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s office says a number of unattended packages sitting on doorsteps had their contents stolen. Police have recovered 18 empty boxes from different addresses along Thimbleberry Road in Malta.

Based on home security video, the thefts happened on Monday, November 28th between 4:30pm and 7pm. Police are asking anyone else who may have video from the area to please share with them.

Sheriff Michael Zurlo issued a statement outlining steps to avoid having packages stolen or tampered with:

– Send packages to a secure location such as Amazon Lockers (www.amazon.com/findalocker)

– Consider installing a video camera or doorbell camera

– Keep delivery area well-lit

– Provide specific delivery instructions (e.g., leave package behind statue, etc.)

– Require a signature for delivery

– Call the Sheriff’s Office if you observe any suspicious activity
