For The Tasty Crustaceans Crab prices are soaring due to fewer fishermen and fewer truck drivers moving the product from overseas to United States ports. Philadelphia seafood distributor Samuel D’Angelo says “In 50 years he’s never seen the industry like this.” Shortages have been seen with other seafood as well as beef, pork, and chicken. D’Angelo says the crab crisis isn’t a problem for wholesalers but for restaurants that have crab on the menu it could be a challenge. Since the beginning of the pandemic, demand for crab has been up over 50 percent. Did you eat more crab during the pandemic?
