Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York (GSNENY) sponsors programs that make a difference in the lives of girls, helping them: gain enthusiasm for learning and creativity, build career and problem-solving skills, and admire a positive and proactive solution to challenges. In honor of our one year anniversary, GSNENY has planned a large-scale project during May 30-June 1, 2008 entitled “Mission Possible.” This weekend-long celebration will be a gift of service to the many communities that make up Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York, where our 16,000+ girl members and adult volunteers will collaborate with local businesses and volunteers to positively impact their community. They were encouraged to plan projects for Operation CAN Do (to benefit local food shelves), Operation Literacy (to promote literacy in the community), or Operation Impact of Choice (to meet a specific need that the girls discover by assessing their community). Please visit www.gsneny.org to find a project near you!
Theater Voices will present a staged reading of its final production of the 2007-2008 season, THE COCKTAIL HOUR, by A.R. Gurney, directed by Judy Spevack. Performances will be given at Steamer No. 10 Theatre, 500 Western Avenue in Albany on Friday, May 30 at 8pm; Saturday, May 31 at 3pm and 8pm; and Sunday, June 1 at 3pm. In this delightful comedy/drama a playwright drops by his parent’s posh home in upstate New York for dinner. As they have cocktails, he casually informs them he has written a play -- about them. What follows are quarrels, recriminations, revelation and reconciliation, replete with erudite, witty dialog. Deliciously funny and touching, this play was winner of the 1989 Lucille Lortel Award for best show Off-Broadway. (The Cocktail Hour was presented by Theater Voices in March 1999 and is repeated as part of our 20th Anniversary Year celebration of noteworthy productions.).
